A French–Yunnan bistro · Ottawa
An intimate table where classic French technique meets mountain pepper, wild mushrooms, fragrant tea, and the bright heat of southwest China.
01 / Our table
Two traditions, one expression

At HSE Bistro, the precision of the French kitchen meets the vivid pantry of Yunnan. Butter and beurre blanc find new energy beside roasted chili, mountain pepper, jasmine, and pu’er tea.
The result is refined without being formal: thoughtful plates made for sharing, a lively glass, and the easy warmth of a neighbourhood bistro.
Each dish begins with a familiar French gesture — clarifying butter, building a sauce, finishing with acid — then takes a turn through Yunnan’s markets and mountain kitchens. Wild mushrooms bring depth, citrus and fermented chilies bring brightness, while jasmine and pu’er tea leave a quiet, fragrant finish.
Our dining room is intimate and unhurried, with linen, candlelight, and room for conversation. Come for the tasting menu, stay for one more glass, and let the evening unfold one small plate at a time.
